An exhibition of paintings
by Anna Polya

The International Welsh Rarebit Centre, High St., Defynog, Brecon LD3 8SL
May 1st–30th
image1

Anna has always lived in South Wales, and has a love for our beautiful coastline and mountains. She studied Art Practice at the University of Glamorgan, qualifying with a BA (hons) in 2012, and also obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Life Drawing from the Broadway Drawing School in 2015. Since then she has won a national award from Artist and Illustrator magazine. She has continued to develop her practice, sketching locally and developing her sketches into oil paintings. In this exhibition she explores the relationship we have with the world around us. As we move through natural and built environments, are we open to noticing the beauty around us, or are we preoccupied with our worries, plans and projects, or scrolling on our devices? All places hold the energy and stories of those who have lived, worked or played there, and if we are receptive we too can be part of what makes that place alive, and when we leave we carry the magic of that place within us.

Alexander Technique classes and workshops

with Anna Brazier
Anna Brazier

Do you take for granted how you do things?

Would you like to find more Freedom and Ease in your Movement?

I am delighted to be offering Alexander Technique classes and workshops at the SAMYE Centre starting in the New Year 2025.

The Alexander Technique is a great way to explore thinking about how you move and discovering new possibilities.

I started learning the technique about twenty years ago. I found it intriguing and exciting, so much so that while still working in the NHS, I joined Don Weed's training course and became a teacher in 2012. I now combine an arts practice with freelance Alexander teaching and am looking forward to establishing some regular sessions at the SAMYE Centre.

If you are curious about the technique, please visit my website at movementinmind.org for more information, costs, and availability. You can also email me from the website.

If you would like to get involved and be part of the new classes, please get in touch, and I can plan schedules to suit you. My first workshop will be planned for a Saturday in January.

I look forward to hearing from you!

THE PATH TO DEEPER COMPASSION

A weekend course With Lama Zangmo
27 SEPTEMBER
the-path-to-deeper-compassion-1

Details

A weekend course with Lama Zangmo

Practical instructions on how to bring compassion and wisdom into every area of our lives. Lama Zangmo will explain the guidelines for walking the path of compassion, and how to bring greater clarity and depth to our everyday actions.
This is part of an ongoing course on the 'Seven Points of Mind Training', but anyone is welcome to join for the weekend.
Mind Training as a Way of Life with Lama Zangmo
Using the text The Great Path of Awakening, Lama Zangmo will give instructions in meditation and the mindset of awakening, with emphasis on using the mind training practice to meet ordinary life situations with intelligence and loving kindness.

ABOUT LAMA ZANGMO
Lama Gelongma Zangmo first became a practising Buddhist when she arrived at Kagyu Samye Ling in 1977 and took refuge with His Holiness the 16th Karmapa, Rangiung Rigpe Dorje. Having received teachings from many highly respected lamas who visited Kagyu Samye Ling, she was inspired to enter the four-year closed retreat in 1984, during which time she became ordained as a Buddhist nun.
When the next long retreat started in 1989 Lama Zangmo wished to further her retreat experience and she was also asked to help and advise the new retreatants. Having completed that retreat in 1993, Lama Zangmo then entered a third long retreat and became the resident retreat teacher to the other women retreatants. That retreat ended in 1997, bringing the total number of years Lama Zangmo spent in retreat to eleven and a half.
Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche and Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche then asked Lama Zangmo to put her experience to good use by helping to run Kagyu Samye Dzong London, which was officially opened in 1998. Since then the London Centre has flourished under Lama Zangmo's guidance and established itself as a much needed Dharma Centre in the capital city, providing a full and varied programme of teachings and events throughout the year.
In 1998 Lama Zangmo was one of a group of nuns who accompanied Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche to India, where she became fully ordained as a Gelongma (Bhikkuni) at a historic ceremony in Bodhgaya. This will in turn enable others to take full Gelongma ordination with the Tibetan Buddhist tradition in the future.
Lama Zangmo's strong connection with Kagyu lineage and in particular with Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche and Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche has inspired her to work tirelessly and joyfully in service to the Dharma and helping others. In recognition of her long experience, selfless qualities and commitment, she became the first person in the UK to be honoured with the title of Lama by our organisation at a heart-warming ceremony in Kagyu Samye Dzong London June 2001.

Bookings are necessary, so please reserve your spot by paying a £5 admin fee using the 'Book & Pay with PayPal' button below.

If you would like to leave a donation towards the centre there will be a donation bowl in the room.

If you would like lunch and refreshments during the day please order and pay in the cafe first thing on arrival
